An author, neuroscientist, and computer engineer unveils a theory of intelligence, of understanding the brain and the future of AI. For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses maplike structures to build a model of the world-not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought.

A Thousand Brains: A New Theory of Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins presents an intriguing perspective on the nature of intelligence and how it is processed in the brain. Hawkins' theory of hierarchical temporal memory is thought-provoking and provides a fresh perspective on the field of artificial intelligence. However, the book can be somewhat technical and may be challenging for readers without a background in neuroscience or computer science. Additionally, while Hawkins presents a compelling theory, it is still relatively new and has yet to be fully proven. Overall, A Thousand Brains is an interesting and thought-provoking read, but may not be the best choice for those looking for a more accessible introduction to the topic.
