Chris reviewed A Wood of One's Own by Ruth Pavey

I'm not sure how in tune with the natural world she really was. Planting non-native plants, celebrating sheep which surely ought to be shunned as croppers of new vegetation - a world without sheep would have more space for the wild plants and creatures, as I am keenly aware every time I look up to the hills to the east of here.
She certainly enjoyed herself, more convivial than many of the 'nature' writers I'm reading lately, and laments also the loss of so many species, particularly butterflies, and was adventurous also. But I'm not convinced.
